SPICY MASALA BUTTERMILK

SPICY MASALA BUTTERMILK

On a hot summer's day, there's nothing more invigorating than a cool glass of buttermilk. However, I must caution you that in our family we love spicy stuff so this version comes with a bite. My husband says he likes the taste of the ginger and the chillies and refuses to drink buttermilk unless it is "spiced up." If you like something spicy which leaves your taste buds tingling, this one is for you.

Apart from the taste, which you have to experience for yourself, the good news is that traditionally buttermilk has been known to be good for digestion. Meals are usually supplemented with a glass of buttermilk to aid digestion.

Ingredients:
  • Curds, 2 cups, 400 ml
  • Black Salt 1 tsp
  • Chaat Masala 1 tsp*
  • Ginger 1/2"
  • Green Chillies, finely chopped, 2*
  • Hing, a pinch
  • Salt, to taste
  • Lemon Juice, 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves, 1 sprig
  • Chopped coriander, 2 tbsp
*In case you want it less spicy, you can reduce the chillies and chaat masala.
Another variation is to add a dash of sugar
Method:

Crush the green chillies, coriander, ginger, and 2-3 curry leaves to a smooth paste
Blend the curds in the mixer till it is smooth
Now, blend the crushed masala and the curds evenly in the mixer
Add chaat masala, black salt, lemon juice, hing and salt to taste.
Chill this in a refrigerator
Serve garnished with coriander leaves
