TAWA PULAO
Talking of street food brings to mind the deliciously spicy pav bhaji.
Today's dish is yet another example of how our spices make for a delicious meal which can be whipped up in little time. Tawa Pulao is a popular street food in Mumbai, Pune and elsewhere, which can be best described as an aromatic and strongly flavoured rice with vegetables tossed in. The pav bhaji masala gives it the zing!
Ingredients:
Heat oil in a thick bottomed non-stick kadai
Add cumin seeds. When they sizzle, add chopped onion and fry. Then add ginger garlic paste and fry till the raw smell goes.
Add the chopped tomatoes and cook till they are soft
Next add the cooked carrots, beans and peas
Add the red chilli powder, turmeric powder, pav bhaji masala and salt
Cook for 2-3 minutes and stir till the masala gets well mixed with the vegetables
Add the chopped capsicum and mix well
Now add the cooked rice and stir till it is well blended
Add the lemon juice and garnish with fresh coriander leaves
Serve hot with raitha of your choice

- Cooked or frozen Green Peas, 1/2 cup
- Tomatoes, finely chopped, medium-sized, 2-3
- Capsicum, small, 1
- Cooked Carrot and Beans, 1/2 cup
- Onion, big sized, finely chopped, 1
- Ginger garlic paste, 1 tsp
- Haldi (Turmeric) powder, 1/2 tsp
- Jeera (Cumin) seeds, 1/2 tsp
- Red Chilli Powder, 1tsp
- Pav Bhaji Masala, 1 tbsp or as per taste
- Oil, 2 tbsp
- Salt, as per taste
- Coriander leaves, 2 tbsp
- Lemon juice, 2 tbsp
